…on being a hater

Posted in Food for Thought by yoshi on June 18, 2009

::PAUSE::

putting on earphones… searching for metallica

::PLAY::

i will be THE first to admit that i’m the ultimate hater. i drink my haterade with ice thanks.

now don’t get me wrong, i’m probably the nicest most open-armed person you’ll meet in ny, but that’s because i’m genuinely a WELCOMING person.

but look at me sideways… now we have a problem.

i think i have anger issues. i tell my bf that all the time. i also think i’m 25% dyslexic, but i’ll save that for later.

actually, i KNOW i have anger issues – but again, that’s a different story.

back to being a hater-

now, i’m not sure if i’m a hater because all the women in my family are haters, or if it is just something that i acquired growing up.

::JT’s bringing sexy back now plays::

growing up as a filipina i’ve heard it ALL – like many other cultures, i’m sure – we don’t sugar coat SHIT. if you’re getting fat we say, “DAMN, you’re getting fat! What happened? Are you eating too much lechon??” if you’re dating a loser, we say “You can do better, you’re ex was WAY better than THAT. look, he’s too short and/or he’s too dark.” if you’re going through adolescence and have pimples all over your face, “hoy! do you not wash your face? you’re going to have a crater face soon – look at your uncle.”

but you see… as harsh as some of it sounds (i could have given better examples, but its the end of the day at work so deal with it), we’re just being honest!

also, looking back, i grew up with pretty obnoxious and prissy ass girls in school. all i wanted was to fit in. yes, i was a geek with an odd sense of fashion. YES, i had glasses, braces AND a neck-brace to pull back my overbite. but i grew out of that and i was always so nice – so why was i never accepted by the “other” girls? i think allowing myself to view my flaws with honesty (seeing what the “other” girls saw) got me to view and observe everyone else with a keen eye. i’ll also admit, that yes, i sometimes DO judge a book by its cover, but only because it helps me weed out the bullshit.

i think i’m also a hater because i’m a damn hard worker and i’ve acquired everything i have in my life through HARD WORK. none of this shit was given to me for free, so why should i be nice and give you the right of way?

FUUUUCK that. work for your own damn shit, damnit. <- yes, i know how that sounds

ok, where was i…

i hate on girls the most though. i think its an alpha female thing. i like being in control. i feel threatened by women. if they think the way i do… well, that’s NEVER a good thing. although, i do find that some of my favorite people are bitches who could care less about what anyone thinks – i just can’t stand being around them all the time.

i hate when people start up on the next “big thing,” ie. i’ve been into [insert new (now full-blown) trend] for a few years and now everyone else is hopping on the train. MUTHERFUCK! can i just LIVE a little without you getting in MY SHIT? now i know trends are bound to happen etc etc, but its annoying as hell when people peg you as one of the newbs, or worse yet, a trend followerGAH! ‘fuck outta heya! i been doing [insert new (now full-blown) trend] much longer than you even knew it existed!

uhm what else…

well i’m running out of time and i need to head out to a gallery – we’ll continue this at a later time. i’ll be out of town for the weekend – so i’ll probably touch back with you when i return.

in the meantime, i leave you with this:

STOP TWITTERING ALL THIS “GET OUT AND MAKE SOMETHING OF YOURSELF TODAY!” BULLSHIT.

if i wanted inspiring messages, i’d crack open a fortune cookie.

THEY, at least, give me lucky numbers.

**UPDATE: OMG – THANK YOU NT FOR SHOWING ME THIS… do you guys see something wrong with this tweet??? please be a joke!!!

    I’m a hater too then…But I like it and I don’t give a flying fuck when anyone says…Wait, can fucks even fly? nvm…good post. much needed angst…Go listen to Gorilla Biscuits or Sick of It All, very apt and takes care of at least half of it.

    ha! SO on point with that. we’re brutally honest and the haterade run thru the veins. that’s why a shitload of us go to flip festivals and grit on each other.

    I love the fact that Filipino women are haters and brutally honest. I don’t love when they are passive-aggressive though. If you are mad, say you are mad…don’t beat around the bush. A good example is when Filipino women make a lot of noise when cleaning to show that they are mad about something…mom and little sister do it all the time.
