nerd alert: let’s see what’s new out there…

Posted in Nerd Alert by yoshi on November 1, 2010

i’m introducing a new category to my blog aptly named “nerd alert” for obvious reasons =P being that i am truly a nerd at heart, i’ve decided to share interesting things that pop up in the tech world…

1. “blogger” station?

Thanko has made a bag that transforms into a laptop and desk station for all you on the go bloggers and photographers. it has extendable aluminum legs, padding for your laptop, pockets galore, and a built in fan to cool down your laptop… if they made this MUCH cuter, then MAYBE i’d purchase.

PRICE: approx $75

2. the sands of time…

KWID created these digital hourglass watches for kids. now i don’t know about you, but i can BARELY read regular tick-tock clocks (yes, that’s what i called it) so how in the hell would a kid learn to read what time by counting grains of sand?! rest-assured, these watches come with a regular clock face so your child won’t become dependent on using the pictionary/taboo hourglass lol.

RETAIL: approx $35

4. USB drive for all to share

artist aram bartholl has been implanting USB drives all over the city as part of his art collection called “DEAD DROPS.” passerby’s can literally plug in and share files… should be interesting… i’m going to find one and try, i bet i’ll get a virus!

There are five flash drives/walls scatted around NYC, so feel free to give it a try, and hopefully nobody has tried to crash the party by uploading malware into the drives. The locations of the Dead Drops are: 87 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY (Makerbot), Empire Fulton Ferry Park, Brooklyn, NY (Dumbo), 235 Bowery, NY (New Museum), Union Square, NY (Subway Station 14th St) and West 21st Street, NY (Eyebeam). Expect to receive some strange stares if you device to plug your notebook into a wall.

5. Gucci 3D eyewear

looks like gucci has joined the 3D craze (still something i’m not particularly “OMG” about). at least these don’t make you look like you just left the optometrist after getting your eye dilated.

PRICE: $224

6. iPhone extreme

this 58-inch table connect for iPhone is just riDONKulous! i mean… why???

Put simply, this 58-inch multitouch surface accepts iPhone 4 connections via a 30-pin Dock Connector, and with a bit of magic, the table becomes your iPhone.

oh wait, i know why:
