adventures in redecorating: PART 1…

Posted in Interior Design by yoshi on November 21, 2010

After Lauren‘s visit a few weeks ago to my apartment, she went ahead and created a floorplan for the layout of my oddly laid out railroad style apartment. We went back and forth via email to get the exact measurements just right and came out with the below plan:

Once we were settled with the measurements, we talked about my budget and items I may want to keep in or replace in the apartment. I let her know I was looking for the following (with my given range):

  • sofabed/couch
  • wardrobe(s) + dresser(s)
  • storage units (chests, shelving, etc)
  • bed frame
  • TV(s)

Within a few hours, Lauren replied back with the following “recipe” for how she thinks I can functionally and creatively enjoy the space I have with my home! She also took into consideration the current style and taste my boyfriend and I already have, which is perfect since the last thing any of would want is to totally change the feel of what we’ve made our home to be.

*Next step, actually finding the furniture that will suit our needs within my price range! If you have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment and I will forward onto Lauren who can give her expert advice!

Here are some photos of the current layout of my apartment to give you a better idea of what we’re working with here lol.

ROOM 1: Currently our “Closet Room,” soon to be Living/Entertainment Room

yes, we have a lot of stuff...

ROOM 2: Bedroom

ROOM 3: Currently our Living Room, soon to be “Storage/Library/Study Room”

And this is our kitchen/dining room, I don’t anticipate many changes here…

Again, if you have any questions or are in need of any tips, please leave a comment! =)

THANK YOU Kaitlin and Woodley & Bunny!

Last night, my wonderful friend and hairstylist Kait let me invite 7 of my other FAB gal pals to a special treat at her work, Woodley & Bunny in Williamsburg. It’s not often that I get to do a true girl’s night, let alone persuade “team city” friends to come make the trek out to BK, so this was the perfect way to celebrate being a lady!

*Dislaimer: my hair was not cooperating that night… but Kaitlin won’t let me cut it because I told her not to let me persuade her into it – grrrrr… why did I ever tell her that?!

Kait and Will gave each of us mini-facials using wonderful apothecary products such as Sachajuan and En Vie de Neuf – oh MAN did they all smell great on my face lol! We all talked about girl stuff like, what to do next with our hair, boys, shoes, you know, typical girl shit and then BAM! Louie pulls out from her bag-o-fun some temporary mustache tattoos that she got from Urban! LMAO! As we each waited for the next girl to finish their mini-facials, we started putting some ‘staches on as well =P

After the facials were set, each of us were also treated to make-up application! I have to admit, I was a bit scared that they might over do it, but shame on me for thinking that because Kaitlin and Will did an OUTSTANDING job by bringing out our natural beauty (because yes, I don’t hang out with uglies BAHAHAHHA jk jk… kinda lmao – ok ok! ALL my friends are beautiful inside and out)!

So, to all my lovely blog readers, if any of you are ever in the need for some tips on skin care, make-up, or anything to do with hair – from color, to cut, to product, PLEASE do yourselves a favor and stop by Woodley & Bunny, they have a fantastic staff and give the best service, ask for Kaitlin and let her know you found her through me =)

Oh! At the end of our session, we were each gifted with a tote bag with our own little supply of goodies!!! So of course we had to celebrate with food and drinks… that part of the night… well, let’s just say I put my camera away for the majority of the time lol!

*In attendance: Hana, Vernie, Chico, Louise, Sandy, Suz, and Hanna (but she met us later that evening hehe)

LMAO - this is what you get when you hang out with the AZN's!

nerd alert: diggin’ these interactive sites…

Posted in Nerd Alert by yoshi on November 21, 2010

Part of working in the digital interactive field is trying to keep up with the latest sites and use of coding and technology to output some amazingly creative experiences. One of the sites worth checking out from time to time is Here they recognize agencies who’ve pushed the limits of design, user interaction and development to showcase their pieces. One of my projects at Rokkan won site of the day here (hehehe – just sayin’).

Here are a few sites I came across that I think are worth sharing:

1. UNIQLO: Lucky Line | Agency: Dentsu | Taiwan

UNIQLO always has some crazy way to reach out and connect to their consumer base online, they continue to come up with clever ways to digitally interact with their shoppers through the web – a feat that is typically sought as a struggle to pull in e-consumers to the actual brick and mortar.

When they launched the opening of their new Taipei store, they created a site that allowed costumers to virtually wait in line before the physical retail store doors opened via Facebook and Twitter. I THINK (because the site is no longer live) user could also create their own personal avatars! How awesome is that?!

2. LEVI’S: Curve ID | Agency: Duke/Razorfish | US

Levi‘s has upped their marketing campaign in the past few months and it looks like they want to close out 2010 with a bang. I think they’ve finally understood the importance of mass digital media and interaction.

With their new product, Levi’s Curve ID denim, they found a clever way to aid their female online consumers in finding the perfect fit for their body shape. Using video clips, profiler questionnaires, and of course, hot models, I think Levi’s achieved a fun way to view the usual fit guide grid.

3. LEVI’S: Soundwash Laundry | Agencies: TBWA/Tequila | Hong Kong

Wow, Levi’s Asia has really put some fun into their Levi’s Square Cut “Soundwash” campaign. The site itself takes a while to load, but to entertain you, there’s a band on the bottom right corner that interacts with the music as it plays, pretty cool. Once loaded, the intro animation is pretty awesome in itself, showing you a 3-D world of a laundrymat.

You can also choose your favorite denim product and “Soundwash” it with some personal picks to drop into the washer depending on your chosen music style, Hip-Hop for example. You can also upload your own photo to add into the washer and also determine the speed of your wash, etc. It’s actually pretty fun (except for the load time, maybe its just me), but I did enjoy how they intertwined music with the style of denim: visual + sound = FUN!

on starting a new job…

Posted in Food for Thought by yoshi on November 20, 2010

I started my new job earlier this week at the infamous advertising agency, Ogilvy & Mather (if you are unfamiliar with this agency, just think: Mad Men). I survived their orientation day (barely) and I’m happy to report that I’ve completed my first full week of work as one of Ogilvy’s interactive digital producers – a new breed at the agency if you will =P.

Starting a new job is always interesting, especially coming in as an entirely new “entity,” its almost like the first day of school again. Questions start running through your head like: What do I wear? What if they don’t like me? Should I be energetic? Should I not be tooooo energetic? Where will I sit? WHO will I sit next to? Where will I have lunch? WHO will I have lunch with? WHAT will I eat? (answer: SHAKE SHACK duh!) Etc. Etc. You get the point.

I like to go into the new playground with an open mind, no expectations, just take everything as they come. I’m the type of person who plays out every kind of situation in my head to mentally prepare myself for the unexpected… however, the unexpected always presents itself with a huge smile on its face as we all know lol.

The main objective is to walk in with confidence, not too much or they’ll think you’re a snob. Just remember, the company offered you the position for a reason, THEY want you there and they believe in what you can contribute to their company values, their craftmanship, their family.

So walk in proudly and be ready to work on some amazing shit that you can own and say, “Yea, I made that happen.”

Go gettum Tiger!

finally! my moped is here!

now… to start assembling the rest of the parts… should be interesting lol!

a few updates i’ll be making to my bike (with the help of the orphanage guys):

  • get lower handle bars
  • drop the whole bike – shorter fork and back shocks

Absolut Glimmer Vodka Private Soiree NYC

Posted in Events by yoshi on November 18, 2010

This past Wednesday evening, my girl Nat of Ladies Lotto and Nylon (among other things, this woman does it ALL!) invited me to be her guest for a special night with Absolut in celebration of their limited holiday edition Absolut Glimmer Vodka at the Chelsea Art Tower.

I wasn’t sure what to expect so when we were escorted to the floor the event was being held, I was ecstatic to see the elegant decor set for all the guests! I felt very special indeed, actually, I felt like I was going to prom all over again… minus the free bar.

Hors d’ouvres were passed around (I think I must have eaten for 3 that night), drinks were plenty, and conversations were – very interesting to say the least. Nat and I enjoyed our meals and played catch up as we ooh’d and ahh’d at the crystal-like Absolut Glimmer bottle placed in front of our faces.

Sara, head of Absolut PR, shared her appreciation with all of their guests and informed us that we were in for a special surprise treat, a private performance by CeeLo Green =) Fantastic! I get to see him again! And when I say private performance, I’m talking about the man was DEFINITELY singing to me… and only me… yea. I said it. =P

Sarah and Nat

Of course each of us walked away with our own bottle of Absolut Glimmer Vodka and chocolates!!!!

Thank you Nat and Absolut for gifting us with a perfect night to start the holiday season off right!
