Wendy’s Birthday Brunch at Riverpark…

Posted in Because I'm Fat, Blogosphere, Friends & Familia by yoshi on October 10, 2011

Yesterday a bunch of my girls and I went to Tom Colicchio’s Riverpark restaurant for brunch to celebrate Wendy’s birthday. The weather was absolutely beautiful and thanks to Simone, we were able to get seated perfectly hahaha!

As usual, my girls arrived in style (and pretty much on time – WHOA!). L-R: Vernie, Louise, Simone, Michelle, Christine, Wendy, Me! *Not pictured, Jen because she had to catch a flight to Paris lol*

There's Jen in the middle hehe!

We were all starving and the menu looked delectable so we went all in and ordered almost one of each dish =)

Salted/Seasoned watermelons - THESE WERE SOOOOO JUICY AND LOVELY!

Avocado topped toast - NOM NOM NOM

Christine and I had Smoked Trout Cake

Of COURSE Wendy had the fried chicken biscuit LMAO!!!!

Simone had the burger - yummmmm

Vern had the Shrimp and Grits

Louise had the hearty Sausage Biscuit

Jen and Michelle had the BLT Sandwich

For dessert, we graciously received a sample of fried donuts, sorbets, ice creams, and baked bananas, compliments of Riverpark! Free desserts – YOU HAD ME AT FREE! ❤ ❤ ❤

The brunch was fabulous and the conversations were endless, obviously! With the view overlooking the East River, of course we had to take advantage and take some photos!

drum lessons and brunch in williamsburg…

Posted in Because I'm Fat, Music by yoshi on September 25, 2011

Woohoo! After all the stress I’ve had to put up with with losing my iPhone (actually, more like someone STEALING it from my desk at work), I was happy and excited to attend my first drumming session at BANG! The Drum School in Williamsburg and let loose – yea, I know you’ve all seen their ads plaster around Bedford Ave!

When it comes to playing the drums, I’m oooookay for having learned on my own, but I thought it was about time to take lessons and learn how to read music sheets and know the fundamentals of percussion.

Because I took piano for almost 13 years, reading music was just peachy, a bit different obviously, but not too bad! My instructor, Phil, was awesome, he said we could skip ahead to the harder stuff since I was able to catch on quickly – yayyyyy!!! I learned some rock beats and one fill lol.

Looking forward to my next lesson, gotta put in the practice so I don’t lose what I just learned! I bought a little practice pad and some sticks… if I get better, maybe I’ll invest in an electric set, or I’ll just jam out in the music room at work =D

I left my bike with Omar and Louise, so after class, we all went to have brunch at Colette – STARVIN MARVIN! We sat in their newly extended garden area and devoured fish tacos, season fries with a side of aioli, and I had their baked french toast topped with plums – OMGAAAHHHH YUM! Oh also ordered a bloody mary for myself… which Louise helped me finish =X

because i’m fat: Peter Pan Bakery…

Posted in Because I'm Fat by yoshi on September 17, 2011

I’ve heard so much about the doughnuts at Peter Pan Bakery so I finally tried it out and it lived up to all my expectations!!

I’m now writing this post after finishing off bits and nibbles of what I ordered earlier today… I’m also watching the Food Network and there’s a doughnut challenge on… how fitting! I’d like to point out that I slowly feel my heart beating faster, my head feeling airy, and my tummy yelling at me for what I’ve just put it through #sugar-rush.

I ordered the following (in order of favorite):

  1. Cream doughnut with red velvet crumbs (AMAZING – definitely my favorite. The cream wasn’t too sweet and the red velvet crumbs balanced out the taste)
  2. Doughnut topped with cream and chocolate sprinkles (I loved this one because it was moist, classic taste, and the glaze wasn’t overly sweet)
  3. Coconut doughnut (I also liked the moist dough, the coconut flakes were just right, although I guess they could have bumped up the flavor juuuust a smidgen)
  4. Apple crumb (filled with apple stuff and topped with brown sugar and other crumbs, idk, this wasn’t my favorite, I guess the filling was too saucy for my taste and the crumbs were too dry)
  5. Apple turnover (this was basically the same as the one above, only it was topped with a sweet glaze and a drizzle of caramel/chocolate I think, again not really my favorite, I think the filling could have been better)
  6. Old fashioned glazed (looks like they do the dry, flakey version for these, not my favorite, I prefer the moist dough)
  7. Spiced doughnut (not a fan of the dry/flakey taste and I guess I don’t like the spiced flavor)
  8. Marble twist (bleh, too dry)
I’d like to go back and see what else, besides doughnuts, they have to offer. There’s a little sit-down area so I’m excited for the next time =)

My girl Sophia created some witty artwork for Eddie and Evan Huang’s Bauhaus‘ second location: Baohaus 2!

Paying homage to rap and hip-hop’s finest, Sophia illustrated a few pieces of her faves including Tribe, Camron, Juelz and more =)

Well done lady! Can’t wait to check out the new spot and eat!!!

happy birthday dinner with aly…

Posted in Because I'm Fat by yoshi on August 25, 2011

Last night I got to catch up with my good friend Aly. It was his birthday the other day so I wanted to take him to an awesome mac n cheese place, Nolita House =)

When he finally showed up (*ahem*) we got down to business. He has a heart of gold, does amazing work, and loves his mama – I really do hope he ends up staying in his hometown so I can see his face more often.

We ordered the lobster mac n cheese (HOLY HELLLLLL TO DIE FOR), the artichoke and spinach pizza (melts in your mouth), and seasoned fries… nom nom nommmmm – I also finished off a glass of their delicious sangria =)

because i’m fat: Je & Jo Organic Ice Cream!

Posted in Because I'm Fat by yoshi on August 23, 2011

I finaaaallllyyy got a chance to try out this new ice cream spot directly across the street from my office (T-R-O-U-B-L-E *shit that was way too hard to type… almost gave up actually… anyway -)!!!

Je and Jo serves up all homemade, hand-packed, organic ice cream! Its a small shop, but I have no doubt that they will double, even triple in size soon. Each little cup is stamped, packed, sealed with recycled materials for your personal enjoyment.

I tried the chai snickerdoodle flavor… WOW! I love my chai tea lattes so I just had to try it. It was a perfect match with the snickerdoodle cookie in the middle! NOM NO MNOM NOMNOMMM

Each cup is $4, yea, a bit on the pricey side, but just remember, they literally make everything by hand! Take the trip out to hell’s kitchen and try it out, maybe you’ll even run into their ice cream bike too!

Follow Je & Jo on Twitter and read their Yelp reviews!

because i’m fat: dinner with my gals at Burger and Barrell!

Posted in Because I'm Fat by yoshi on August 22, 2011

The other week, Louise, Wendy and I finally got together to enjoy a long awaited dinner (a month or so in planning lol). We opted for Burger and Barrel off Houston. I got there early and was STARVING so I enjoyed a ceviche platter to myself =X

When the other girls got there, we split the following orders: Truffle Burger (OMG THE BEST BURGER IN THE WHOLE WORLD!!! AT $36 IT BETTER BE!), fried chicken, spinach, side of fries, and Louise got herself a tomato soup.

The fried chicken was okay, I’ve had better, but the burger – WOW. FLAVOR BLAST IN YOUR MOUTH! Definitely worth every buck!

For dessert we split a brownie a la mode =)

We laughed, we cried, we pinched each other’s fat. Some of you may think that girls like us only talk about fashion and shopping and blogging – OH NO, not with us! You see, many of my girlfriends I’ve known before the whole blogging sensation, so its nice to just catch up on life and remove ourselves from that “world.” =)
