Cafe 81 with the crew!
When Vernie im’s that she wants sinigang, we make a night of it! LMAO! Vern, Sandy, Chico, Rex, Nico, China, Mau and I met at Cafe 81 and had a plethora of Filipino goodness (unfortunately both my camera AND my iphone were dying so the photos are limited FML).
So good!!!
drum lessons and brunch in williamsburg…
Woohoo! After all the stress I’ve had to put up with with losing my iPhone (actually, more like someone STEALING it from my desk at work), I was happy and excited to attend my first drumming session at BANG! The Drum School in Williamsburg and let loose – yea, I know you’ve all seen their ads plaster around Bedford Ave!
When it comes to playing the drums, I’m oooookay for having learned on my own, but I thought it was about time to take lessons and learn how to read music sheets and know the fundamentals of percussion.
Because I took piano for almost 13 years, reading music was just peachy, a bit different obviously, but not too bad! My instructor, Phil, was awesome, he said we could skip ahead to the harder stuff since I was able to catch on quickly – yayyyyy!!! I learned some rock beats and one fill lol.
Looking forward to my next lesson, gotta put in the practice so I don’t lose what I just learned! I bought a little practice pad and some sticks… if I get better, maybe I’ll invest in an electric set, or I’ll just jam out in the music room at work =D
I left my bike with Omar and Louise, so after class, we all went to have brunch at Colette – STARVIN MARVIN! We sat in their newly extended garden area and devoured fish tacos, season fries with a side of aioli, and I had their baked french toast topped with plums – OMGAAAHHHH YUM! Oh also ordered a bloody mary for myself… which Louise helped me finish =X
because i’m fat: Peter Pan Bakery…
I’ve heard so much about the doughnuts at Peter Pan Bakery so I finally tried it out and it lived up to all my expectations!!
I’m now writing this post after finishing off bits and nibbles of what I ordered earlier today… I’m also watching the Food Network and there’s a doughnut challenge on… how fitting! I’d like to point out that I slowly feel my heart beating faster, my head feeling airy, and my tummy yelling at me for what I’ve just put it through #sugar-rush.
I ordered the following (in order of favorite):
- Cream doughnut with red velvet crumbs (AMAZING – definitely my favorite. The cream wasn’t too sweet and the red velvet crumbs balanced out the taste)
- Doughnut topped with cream and chocolate sprinkles (I loved this one because it was moist, classic taste, and the glaze wasn’t overly sweet)
- Coconut doughnut (I also liked the moist dough, the coconut flakes were just right, although I guess they could have bumped up the flavor juuuust a smidgen)
- Apple crumb (filled with apple stuff and topped with brown sugar and other crumbs, idk, this wasn’t my favorite, I guess the filling was too saucy for my taste and the crumbs were too dry)
- Apple turnover (this was basically the same as the one above, only it was topped with a sweet glaze and a drizzle of caramel/chocolate I think, again not really my favorite, I think the filling could have been better)
- Old fashioned glazed (looks like they do the dry, flakey version for these, not my favorite, I prefer the moist dough)
- Spiced doughnut (not a fan of the dry/flakey taste and I guess I don’t like the spiced flavor)
- Marble twist (bleh, too dry)

happy birthday dinner with aly…
Last night I got to catch up with my good friend Aly. It was his birthday the other day so I wanted to take him to an awesome mac n cheese place, Nolita House =)
When he finally showed up (*ahem*) we got down to business. He has a heart of gold, does amazing work, and loves his mama – I really do hope he ends up staying in his hometown so I can see his face more often.
We ordered the lobster mac n cheese (HOLY HELLLLLL TO DIE FOR), the artichoke and spinach pizza (melts in your mouth), and seasoned fries… nom nom nommmmm – I also finished off a glass of their delicious sangria =)
because i’m fat: Je & Jo Organic Ice Cream!
I finaaaallllyyy got a chance to try out this new ice cream spot directly across the street from my office (T-R-O-U-B-L-E *shit that was way too hard to type… almost gave up actually… anyway -)!!!
Je and Jo serves up all homemade, hand-packed, organic ice cream! Its a small shop, but I have no doubt that they will double, even triple in size soon. Each little cup is stamped, packed, sealed with recycled materials for your personal enjoyment.
I tried the chai snickerdoodle flavor… WOW! I love my chai tea lattes so I just had to try it. It was a perfect match with the snickerdoodle cookie in the middle! NOM NO MNOM NOMNOMMM
Each cup is $4, yea, a bit on the pricey side, but just remember, they literally make everything by hand! Take the trip out to hell’s kitchen and try it out, maybe you’ll even run into their ice cream bike too!
